Children's Dentistry Cambridge

Building healthy habits from the very first tooth. Gentle, patient care for children of all ages

A child's first few dental visits can shape how they feel about dentistry for the rest of their life. At Form Dental, we make those visits something to look forward to. Calm, unhurried, and centred entirely around the child feeling comfortable and safe.

We welcome children from the moment their first tooth appears. The earlier we can start building a relationship, the easier it becomes to spot any developing concerns and instil habits that last a lifetime.

Our approach

A positive first experience

We take time to introduce children to the practice at their own pace, letting them explore the chair, meet the team, and understand what is happening before anything begins. A good first visit sets the tone for a lifetime.

Preventive focus

We prioritise protecting teeth before problems develop. Fluoride varnish, fissure sealants, and tailored brushing advice are the foundation of our approach to children's dentistry.

No rush, no pressure

Children move at their own speed and so do we. If a child is not ready for an examination on their first visit, that is absolutely fine. Building trust matters more than ticking boxes.

Whole-family appointments

Children under 6 are seen free of charge when accompanying a full paying adult. We can often arrange back-to-back appointments so the whole family is seen in a single visit.

When should my child first visit?

We recommend bringing your child along to your own appointments from the very beginning, even as a baby. Seeing a parent in the chair, relaxed and comfortable, is one of the most powerful things you can do to normalise dental visits for a child.

Their first dedicated appointment can be arranged as soon as their first tooth appears or around their first birthday. At this stage we simply count the teeth, check for any early concerns, and chat through diet and brushing with you.

From age six onwards, x-rays may be recommended to check on the development of adult teeth that have not yet come through.

Anxious children

It is very common for children to feel nervous about visiting the dentist. We are experienced in working with anxious children and we never force, never rush, and always follow the child's lead.

Our clinical rooms have a Sonos sound system and children are welcome to choose music that helps them feel at ease. Aromatherapy is also available as an optional comfort measure.

If your child is particularly anxious, please let us know when booking so we can allow extra time and prepare accordingly.
