Chipped Tooth Repair Cambridge

A chipped tooth can usually be repaired in a single visit, with results that look completely natural.

Chipping a tooth is one of the most common dental problems we see. Whether it happened biting something hard, during sport, or in an accident, the good news is that even significant chips can be fixed to look completely natural. The right treatment depends on the size of the chip and which tooth is affected.

You might have this if you notice

  • You can feel a sharp or rough edge with your tongue
  • A visible piece has broken away from the tooth
  • The tooth looks shorter or uneven compared to the others
  • Mild sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet foods around the area

A chipped tooth can usually be repaired in a single visit, with results that look completely natural.

Common questions

Can a chipped tooth be fixed in one appointment?+
In most cases, yes. Composite bonding for chips is typically completed in a single visit, usually within 30–60 minutes.
Does repairing a chipped tooth hurt?+
For small chips, no anaesthetic is needed at all. Larger repairs may require a local anaesthetic, but the procedure itself is comfortable.
How long will the repair last?+
Composite bonding repairs typically last 5–8 years with good care. Veneers and crowns last longer — usually 10–15 years or more.
Is a chipped tooth a dental emergency?+
Not usually, but if the chip has exposed the nerve (you'll know — the pain will be significant) or left a very sharp edge that's cutting your tongue, call us the same day.
