Gaps in Teeth Cambridge

Gaps between teeth can be closed quickly and comfortably — often in a single appointment.

Gaps between teeth (known as diastemas) are very common, particularly between the two upper front teeth. They can affect your confidence and in some cases make it harder to keep the area clean. Depending on the size of the gap and its cause, there are several effective options — from same-visit bonding to Invisalign.

You might have this if you notice

  • A visible space between one or more teeth
  • Food becoming trapped in the gap regularly
  • Self-consciousness about your smile or a gap you want to close
  • A gap that has widened over time (which may indicate a gum issue)

Gaps between teeth can be closed quickly and comfortably — often in a single appointment.

Common questions

Can a gap between my front teeth be fixed in one visit?+
In most cases, yes. Composite bonding to close a central gap is typically done in a single appointment taking around an hour.
Will closing a gap change the shape of my teeth?+
Your dentist will design the bonding or veneers to keep the teeth in natural proportion. The goal is to make it look like there was never a gap, not to make the teeth look wide.
Can gaps come back after treatment?+
Gaps closed with bonding or veneers can reopen if there is underlying pressure from the tongue or if teeth aren't retained with a retainer after orthodontics. We'll advise on retention.
Why do I have a gap between my front teeth?+
Gaps can be due to natural spacing, a small labial frenum (the tissue connecting the lip to the gum), previous tooth loss, or teeth that have drifted. We'll assess the cause at your consultation.
