Snoring and sleep apnoea affect millions of people in the UK, disrupting sleep for both the sufferer and their partner. At Form Dental, Dr Geeta Bellis offers custom-made mandibular advancement devices, a comfortable, discreet, and clinically proven solution to help you breathe freely through the night.

This treatment is ideal if you

  • Those who snore regularly or loudly
  • Anyone diagnosed with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea
  • People who have tried CPAP and found it uncomfortable
  • Partners affected by a loved one's snoring
  • Frequent travellers wanting a portable solution
  • Anyone waking unrefreshed or feeling fatigued during the day

How it works

01

Consultation

Dr Geeta Bellis will discuss your symptoms and sleep history, assess your airway and bite, and determine whether a mandibular advancement device is right for you.

02

Impressions

Precise digital or physical impressions of your teeth are taken to ensure your appliance fits securely and comfortably throughout the night.

03

Fitting

Your custom appliance is fitted and the degree of jaw advancement is carefully calibrated to open your airway effectively while remaining comfortable to wear.

04

Review & adjustment

A follow-up appointment allows us to fine-tune the fit and advancement, and assess how your sleep has improved.

Custom appliance vs CPAP

★ At Form Dental

Custom Mandibular Appliance

  • Precision-made from impressions of your own teeth
  • Silent: no machine, no noise during the night
  • Compact and easy to travel with
  • No mask, no tubing, no electricity needed
  • Comfortable once acclimatised: most patients adapt within weeks
  • Clinically proven for snoring and mild to moderate OSA
  • Adjustable: we fine-tune the jaw position at your review

Traditional approach

CPAP Machine

  • Requires a bedside machine and mask every night
  • Generates noise that can disturb partners
  • Bulky to transport: difficult for frequent travellers
  • Mask can feel claustrophobic or uncomfortable
  • Many patients struggle with long-term compliance
  • Effective for severe OSA but often abandoned
  • Pressure settings are fixed and require clinic adjustment

Your clinician

Dr Geeta Bellis

Dr Geeta Bellis has a specialist interest in dental sleep medicine and is experienced in assessing and fitting custom mandibular advancement devices. She takes time to understand your symptoms and lifestyle to find the right solution for you.

Wake up rested. Sleep quietly.

What is sleep apnoea?

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) occurs when the muscles in the throat relax during sleep, causing the airway to narrow or close. This can cause repeated pauses in breathing, reduced oxygen levels, and fragmented sleep, often without the sufferer being aware. Common signs include loud snoring, waking with a dry mouth or headache, excessive daytime tiredness, and difficulty concentrating.

How does the appliance work?

A mandibular advancement device (MAD) is worn over your upper and lower teeth during sleep. It gently holds your lower jaw in a slightly forward position, which keeps the airway open and prevents the soft tissues at the back of the throat from vibrating or collapsing. The appliance is custom-made from impressions of your teeth for a precise, secure fit.

How is this different to CPAP?

CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is the most well-known treatment for sleep apnoea, but many people find the machine noisy, the mask uncomfortable, and the equipment cumbersome to travel with. A custom dental appliance is silent, small enough to fit in a pocket, and most patients find it far easier to adapt to, making it more likely to be used consistently.

Common questions

Do I need a sleep study before getting an appliance?+
Not always. If your main concern is snoring without other symptoms, we can proceed directly to a consultation and fitting. If sleep apnoea is suspected, Dr Bellis may recommend a sleep study first to confirm the diagnosis and severity.
How long does it take to get used to wearing it?+
Most patients adapt within one to two weeks. Some initial jaw soreness or increased salivation is normal and typically settles quickly. We provide guidance on how to get used to the appliance gradually.
Is it available on the NHS?+
Form Dental is a private practice. Please see our fee guide for current pricing. In some cases, your GP may be able to refer you through NHS sleep services for CPAP treatment.
How long does a custom appliance last?+
With proper care, a custom mandibular advancement device typically lasts two to four years. We recommend an annual check to assess fit and wear.
Can I use it if I wear dentures?+
This depends on how many teeth you have remaining. Dr Bellis will assess your suitability at the consultation appointment.

Calm and relaxed atmosphere right from the door. Friendly receptionist and a warm welcome from Geeta the dentist. Put my mind at rest straightaway about procedures and practices at the surgery. Geeta explained everything in detail after an examination of my teeth that was probably the most explorative check I've ever had in all my years. No hard sell and a genuine authentic explanation of my teeth (and related oral health). High tech equipment and no uncomfortable processes to map teeth and gums. In my views this is a totally professional service that's almost worth looking forward to.

Form is everything that a dental practice should be! I was nervous before attending but Laura and Andrea were professional and kind and put me at ease. Highly recommended!

This is hands down the best dentist I have ever visited in my life. It's like being at a 5 star resort/spa. They take a great deal of care ensuring the patient understands the rationale behind the treatment plan and procedures. Their equipment is state of the art and the team working there are simply great. I am so happy to have come across this dental practice.

Wonderful experience at Form Dental from start to finish. Welcoming receptionist in a calm, tranquil environment, followed by the most informative, caring yet professional hygienist appointment with Teresa, that I have ever experienced. So attentive to individual needs and concerns, including demonstration of correct flossing and brushing techniques. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Recently found this dentist and from walking in the welcome, the service and as you are leaving all is 10 out of 10. Gita (Dentist) is by far the best I have come across, takes time to explain all you need to know and with genuine care, and of course Andrea (assistant) also top notch. Together they are number one in the business. Highly recommend

So impressed with my friendly, knowledgeable dentist and the helpful and thorough appointment - lots of great advice. A beautiful clinic with great equipment and, best of all, they were brilliant with my 2 year old and even put tractors on the TV to make him feel welcome. Thank you so much!
