Worn Teeth Repair Cambridge

Worn teeth can be restored to their original length and function — without the need for extensive drilling.

Tooth wear is increasingly common and is usually caused by one of three things: grinding or clenching (bruxism), acid erosion from diet or reflux, or toothbrush abrasion. The problem tends to worsen slowly and is often noticed only when teeth look noticeably shorter or when sensitivity develops. Modern techniques allow us to rebuild worn teeth without removing much (or any) healthy tooth structure.

You might have this if you notice

  • Teeth that look shorter or more square than they used to
  • Increased sensitivity, particularly to cold
  • Flattened or uneven biting edges
  • A smile that looks less youthful than before
  • Jaw pain, headaches or stiff jaw muscles (linked to grinding)

Worn teeth can be restored to their original length and function — without the need for extensive drilling.

Common questions

Can worn teeth be built back up?+
Yes. Modern composite bonding allows us to add to worn teeth without removing healthy structure — the technique is called additive or "no-prep" bonding and gives very natural results.
Is tooth wear reversible?+
The enamel that has worn away cannot grow back, but the teeth can absolutely be restored to their original shape and function using bonding or other restorations.
Do I need a night guard?+
If grinding is the cause of your wear, a custom night guard is strongly recommended — both to protect any restorations and to prevent further damage to the remaining teeth.
How do I know if I grind my teeth?+
Many people are unaware they grind at night. Signs include a partner reporting noise, jaw aching in the morning, headaches on waking, and the flat or worn appearance of your teeth.
